Wood Data
Selections
All Tangaloa hardwood is
prime grade with clear and attractive grain
patterns. The wood is naturally free of all knots
and is available in the following selections: (1)
Tangaloa Prime Select; (2) Tangaloa Prime; and
(3) Tangaloa RS Stockwood.
All selections may be
used for interior or exterior purposes.
Grading
All Tangaloa Prime hardwood
is clear and knot-free and sold only as prime
grade. In relation to NHLA grading standards,
Tangaloa is higher than FAS, which has a second
face requirement of at least 83.13% clear.
Tangaloa could well be regarded as FAF, in that
all faces are 100% clear.
Economy of Wood
Because all faces of
Tangaloa wood are 100% clear, off-cutting and
trimming for blemishes are minimized or
eliminated. This is a real money-saving value,
particularly for manufacturers who utilize
roughsawn stockwood.
Kiln-Dried
Tangaloa hardwood is
kiln-dried to industry requirements of 6-9%
and is not chemically treated, thereby making it
non-toxic and suitable for any usages relating to
food service or direct physical contact with
people.

Woodworking
Any current technology
currently used for working wood can be applied to
Tangaloa wood. While the wood is hard and strong,
it lends itself to all standard hardwood
techniques. No special equipment are required,
other than blades or bits that are sharp
and designed for hardwood. The wood is very
stable and not easily chipped or split in
handling.
The wood can be sawn,
nailed, screwed, glued, routed, beveled,
dowelled, steam-curved, planed, sanded, stained,
oiled, varnished, resin-coated, laminated, lathed
and so on.
Termite Resistance
Discussions with USDA
plant anatomists and entymologists show that
there is enough historical observations and
information to conclude that coco wood is not
regarded as a primary or important host for
termites.
